Jordan Lablanc,

Local bar circuit guitar player heads to NSCC to get training for electrical trade during Covid 19.

“Its seems weird and crazy, but I love going back to school as an adult,” said Jordan Leblanc, a new student at NSCC Ivany campus. Jordan has gone back to school at the age of 33 taking Electrical construction and industrial Certificate.

A student would take this course to get indentured into the Electrical Industry and have a company pick you up to start your hours to become a Red Seal Electrician.

Jordan, like myself decided to go back to school as an adult after playing guitar full-time solo and part of a band called “Satori," and is really liking it.

When asked about the direct effects about Covid 19 to Jordans program exactly, he said “ Covid has lots of negative effects, but this program it’s actually great”.

As far as his course, each student gets there own cubicle in the shop at NSCC, which Jordan said is the best because the teachers are there and no one can bother you when doing there labs.

Jordans class is online 2 days a week. “Its amazing, I don't lose anything from the teacher not being there, it saves me a drive to Dartmouth, and I can do it at my own pace.”

When asked if there was anything NSCC should keep going forward, he told me that the online part of the course should remain online. The trades can be a lot, and he loves that he can go back thru the class online.

When it comes to the changes because of Covid, the building is empty, and when they are in the shop they can only leave to go to the bathroom, but it doesn't effect any learning, and even the teachers in Jordans opinion haven't seemed to be effected and like delivering class online.

Jordan was great to talk to, and it seems that Covid 19 hasn’t effected the Electrical program negatively, which in these dark confusing times is nice to hear. It will be intresting to see if NSCC continues to be able to service Nova Scotia students with great classes and adaption to Covid 19.
